Good Day to all Veterans – of military service, of pointing toward the Kingdom of God, of peacemaking, and loving our neighbors,
I hate to break it to you, but “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!” This is where we all shake our heads and say “we used to wait until after Thanksgiving.” But the upside is that this week’s review of Gayle Boss’ All Creation Waits – Gift Edition gave us enough time to order it and give it to someone before Advent begins in only a couple weeks.

This week’s essay was a fresh and honest account of why and how a person chooses Zoom church, even after most COVID restrictions are lifted. It’s about COVID, but even more about community, rest, and retirement. See what you think.

ICYMI, the United States held midterm elections on Tuesday! A couple bloggers offered some thoughts: Scott Hoezee’s Election Day and Beyond, while Debra Rienstra used her alter ego, Pious Petunia, to bring some levity and wisdom.
The Poetry Podcast returned this week. Sean O'Neill shared the background for “Leaning.” We continue to urge you to give these brief podcasts a listen. Whether you’re a poetry veteran or rookie, hearing the poet talk about and read their poem is wonderful.

Finally, today is Veterans Day in the US, or originally Armistice Day. Over the years, our bloggers have done some really good work on this topic. We’ll dip into the archives to offer you Vets, 11/11/16 by Jim Schaap; We Need More Than Veterans Day Parades by Brian Keepers; Right is More Precious Than Peace by Rebecca Koerselman; Don’t Thank Me by Chad Pierce; and my own The Ripples of War.
I don’t know if you’ll be as relieved as I (Steve Mathonnet-VanderWell) will be, but Jeff Munroe, our Editor, will be back at the helm next week.
Happy reading to all!
Steve
